When to avoid massage: Massage should be avoided in the first trimester as the baby undergoes many physical and hormonal changes. The increased flow of circulation may cause dizziness and worse nany existing morning sickness. In addition, the abdomen should not be massaged during the first fourth months of pregnancy.

Massage during pregnancy is usually safe for most mother to be in the second and third trimester. However, there are some medical condition where massage is not recommended, such as diabetes or hypertension.

Finally, many massage therapists and reflexologists  do not recommend direct and continued pressure on the area between the ankle and bond the heel. They believe there is a connection between this area and the uterus and vegina, and exerting heavy pressure on this area could set off premature labour.
