I stopped to watch a local man cast-net fishing in a rain-swollen stream
in Suong, Cambodia. He speaks Khmer, the Cambodian language. He
fishes here often during the wet monsoon rainy season from June to
November. This gentleman is wearing traditional Cambodian Krama scarf.
He is trying to catch small fish and rice paddy crabs.
It was
fun to watch as he casts the net and later checks his catch, a
traditional way of fishing for generations in Cambodia. There is
something I love about the simplicity of life in the countryside void of
excessive technology. Although his appearance is simple, please do not
assume that he is not intelligent or destitute. He has a simple
countryside home and loves his homeland and country very much; he is
very proud to be Cambodian. I stayed in the Suong City area for several
days with family and the local people were extremely friendly and kind.
